Dear Friends
There's a song we often sing in church (farily often anyway)and one of
the verses has these words:
Could we with ink, the Oceans fill,
And were the skies of parchment made.
Were every stalk, on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade.
To write the Love of God above,
Would drain the Oceans dry.
Nor could the scroll, contain the whole,
Though streched from sky to sky.
It is this subject about the Love of God that has been occupying my
mind the last week or so. I have come to see very clearly that we all
give mental assent to the truth that God loves us, but not very many
of us have really had an experience or revelation of that love in our
lives. I don't think that anyone (myself included) really have an
idea of how great this love is or how important it is that we
understand this.
Sometimes when you are reading a book or listening to someone talk or
just thinking......a light comes on. Suddenly something makes
sense......and this is exactly what we need to have happen regarding
the love of God. We all know we are loved by God, but when it finally
makes sense, something remarkable will have occured in our lives.
It is this remarkable change I am seeking.
When we are able to experience the Love of God like this we will never
be the same. Just imagine, that if a little glimpse of this love is
able to bring us to salvation and give us hope of eternal
life...........what would a big glimpse of His love do for us?
An understanding and experience of the Love of God will set us free
from a feeling that we need to perform to be loved. It will give us a
new heart that loves to give (and is joyful in doing it).
The only way I can explain it is by giving you an example. On October
12, 2002, a large bomb exploded in Bali on an island just north of us
here in Australia. Many of our own fellow Australians were killed
(about
100) and we have seen their families and friends interviewed on TV. What
struck me about it all is their intense hatred of Mr Amorosi. (the
perpetrator who was recently sentenced to death) They have such hate for
this man that is is eating up their lives.......the idea of forgiveness
would be unthinkable to them. Sadly, when Mr Amorosi is finally put to
death they will still carry a permanent hurt. Revenge will not heal them.
But doesn't Jesus ask us to forgive others?........Sure He does. So
how in the world are the family and friends of these Bali victims
supposed to forgive.
Until a person Has themselves experienced forgiveness themselves from
God, they are unable to forgive anyone else. When I receive life
changing and liberating forgiveness for my sins.........I am very
happy. Then when another wrongs me, as my wife did when she walked out
on me 30 months ago, I am able to forgive. The people of Bali need to
have Jesus in their lives and experience His forgiveness for their
sins, and only then can they forgive Mr Amorosi.
So if we will become the loving people christians are supposed to be,
we will first need to experience that love ourselves. Also, that love
in our lives will liberate us more than any other spiritual
experience.
I firmly believe that:
"THE LOVE OF GOD IS THE TONIC WE ALL NEED MOST"
This is what you should seek in your prayers. It will make permanent
changes.
My sincerest regards and blessings from Australia.
The Lord be with you
Cheers in Christ
David
