Dear Friends,

A few weeks ago I decided to count how many times famous people’s names appeared in the Bible. Jesus was the most commonly mentioned person being named well over 1000 times. Moses was next being named also over 1000 times. King David was third being named about 900 times…………….who do you think came next?

It surprised me actually that Abraham was the next most commonly named person in the Bible. He was mentioned over 300 times. In fact in the New Testament Abraham seems to creep into a suprising number of places. I wondered what it was that made Abraham so special or prominent to God. If Abraham is mentioned so much in the Bible, there must be a reason for it.

It doesn’t’ surprise me that Jesus was mentioned so much. It didn’t surprise me about Moses either because he wrote a lot of the Bible and also led the children of Israel out of Egypt. Neither did it surprise me about King David because he also wrote part of the Bible and was a King of Israel for 40 years. It DID surprise me about Abraham though because he didn’t do anything that seemed overly special or amazing.

Sometimes we think we have to do amazing or special things to be noticed by God. Some people think that unless they live miraculous lives that they will never get noticed….that’s not true actually. We only have to do the one thing that Abraham did………he had faith.

Faith is basically just trusting in God and believing that what He says is true and being willing to obey it. That’s what Abraham did. Just think, when Abraham lived, the Bible wasn’t even written yet, but Abraham believed that God was real and was willing to let God lead and he followed. Its as simple as saying to God, "You are my God and I wan’t to be your follower. I believe that you know what is best for me, and so I will let you show me what to do." You see, God does love us and care for us and knows what is best for us, and when we trust Him and let Him lead us, He is very pleased with that.

The Bible says 2 things about it actually. Firstly, in Hebrews 6:6 it says "without faith it is impossible to please God." In other words, when we do have faith, we please God very much. Secondly it says that because Abraham believed God that "it was credited to him as righteousness." This verse tells us that when we trust God it has a way of making us right with God. I find that amazing.

You may not be an amazing person like Moses, Jesus or King David, but you are able to do exactly what Abraham did….you can believe in God and follow Him. Lay down your life for Jesus and let Him have every part of you. Become His disciple and walk with Him. This pleases God.

Bless you my friend
Cheers
David
