| Would you or your community like to see rain, and are you willing to pray to ask for it. If so, there are two ways you can go about doing it.
- Firstly, you can organise your own prayer, and we'd like to encourage, you in this...
- Secondly, if you are not sure how to do it yourself, you can invite us to come and give you a hand.
It doesn't really matter which way you choose, because what is important in the end is that you come to a place where your trust is in God to answer your prayers. Sometimes it takes a desperate town to come to this place, and until the people are really desperate, they are too proud to ask God for help. The picture are left was when we were invited by the townfolk of Alpha (Western Queensland) in February 2003 to pray for rain in their public hall. It rained the same day.
If you would like to invite us to hold a special prayer service for rain, please email us and let us know so we can help organise an event for your town.
If you would like to hold your own prayer service, there are a number of things to take into account, for example:
1. It needs to be a community exercise, that is it must involve your community and not just be something you try doing on your own. If you want to organise such an event, then try talking to your local council, local churches or businesses to see if they are willing to pray.
2. You can try writing to the local council to get their support, especially perhaps the free hire of a public facility or showgrounds for use during a special service.
3. Plan the event with the cooperation of as many groups and churches as you can, and make sure in the prayer service that you actually do pray. Some people have held "prayer services" but have actually not prayed, just sang a lot of songs and has a message....make sure you actually pray.
4. Be specific in the nature of your prayers, don't beat about the bush with solemn sounding words or great rituals, simply lay your needs humbly, and simply before God and request what you need. It helps if there is agreement about the exact nature of what you are asking God for.
5. Remember that sometimes a "once off" prayer is not enough, and that God sometimes wants to see some perserverance, so after the special service is over, remind the people to continue to keep praying daily for rain until the answer comes. Sometimes this can take a few weeks or months.
6. In your special service, remind the people that it our sins which prevent God's blessings. Tell the people to forsake their sins and lay them aside. Tell them to stop doing things which displease God and if they will stop it will enable God to pour out the blessings you are asking for.
The Bible says that if anyone asks with faith and does not doubt - their prayer will be answered. We trust and pray that these thoughts will help bring blessing to your town and region.
