In the Bible whenever the word "church" is used, it surprisingly is not talking about a building, but about a group of people. For example, in some parts of the Bible it refers to "the church of Ephesus" (a city in Asia). The truth is that it wasn't talking about a building or organisation, but a group of followers of Jesus in that city.

This is very exciting because it means that you can "be a church" in your very own home. You may live at Boulia or Barrow Creek or some place in the outback where it is very rare for a church service to be held. You may only see a minister several times a year, but this does not have to stop you from being a disciple and follower of Jesus. The answer is to start a church in your very own home. Thousands of people all around the world are already doing this, and it is the ultimate answer for the outback people of Australia.

So what is.involved in starting a church in your house? Fortunately not very much:

There are a few ways you can go about it, but basically you need to set aside a certain time every week when you will stop and consider the ways of God. You can do this on your own if there is no one else interested, or if there are others you can all do it together. The time you pick does not have to be a Sunday morning, in fact it doesn't have to be a Sunday at all. There are no rules in the Bible telling you when or how you must do it.

As part of your "home church service" you will have a time of reading the bible, a time for praying and a time for discussing what you have learned in the Bible and what it means. Part of this of course includes a time of thoughtfulness where you consider how you will apply what you learn to your life, that is you will ask yourself if you may need to change anything you do to become more like what God requires.

If this seems a little daunting, there are several great ways I can help you:
- Firstly I am willing to come and visit and help you get started.
- I am willing to give you a free Bible or bibles if you don't have any.
- I have a great short booklet which will help you run your house church.
- I can also provide a weekly "outline" to help you run your own service.

If you would like help in any of the above ways to start your own house church, email me here and I will be delighted to help you start a church in your very own home. By the way, here is a great booklet you can read on this subject. "The Church in the House - by Robert Fitts."
