It is commonly thought by most Muslims that the Injil (part of the Bible) has been changed and therefore cannot be trusted. The answer to this question is very simple. The Injil has been "translated" but not changed. I will demonstrate this to you in a moment.

The original Injil is written mostly in a language called "Koine Greek" which is no longer spoken. Some portions of the Injil were also written in Aramaic, a language which only several thousand people now speak. (most of these speakers live in Iran) These manuscripts date back nearly 2000 years, long before Mohammed was born and long before Islam was even a religion. Because they are in old languages, we are unable to read them. Therefore, with the help of special linguistic scholars, these manuscripts were translated into languages that we can read today. The Injil is currently in many thousands of languages in many countries, including Arabic, Urdu, Bahasa, Malay, Berber, Farsi, Persian and others. Let us compare some of the English versions below.

Here are some comparisons for the Injil portion of John 1:1-8

Modern English (New Living Translation): 1. In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and He was God. 2. He was in the beginning with God. 3. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that He didn't make. 4. Life itself was in him, and this life gives light to everyone. 5. The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. 6. God sent John the Baptist 7. to tell everyone about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. 8. John himself was not the light; he was only a witness to the light. 9. The One who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was going to come into the world.

Old English (King James Version): 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

English (Contemporary English Version): 1In the beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God and was truly God. 2From the very beginning the Word was with God. 3And with this Word, God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word. Everything that was created 4received its life from him, and his life gave light to everyone. 5The light keeps shining in the dark, and darkness has never put it out. 6God sent a man named John, 7who came to tell about the light and to lead all people to have faith. 8John wasn't that light. He came only to tell about the light. 9The true light that shines on everyone was coming into the world.

The Injil teaches us that God has watched over His words to make sure that they have not become corrupted. And, as you can see from the various translations that yes there have been changes to words and phrases, but the meaning and the message have remained true to what God wanted to communicate. Despite the Injil now having been translated into thousands of languages, the meaning is always consistent. We truly can trust that the message of the Injil is accurate and that God wants us to believe these words and obey them. Most of all, He wants to reveal His love to us through these precious scriptures. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 it says that "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do."
