| Is Jesus the Son of God? To answer this question, we need to understand the question that is being asked. The Bible does in fact teach that Jesus IS the Son of God, but this concept is frequently misunderstood to mean something else. When the Injil (part of the Bible) uses the phrase "the Son of God" it is referring to the fact that Jesus is divine. This phrase means that Jesus is God, He was not created but came down from Heaven to us. The Bible teaches that Jesus actually is the Creator..............because of His will, we have come into being. The Injil says this in John 1:3 "He created everything there is. Nothing exists that He didn't make." When a man and a woman are joined and a woman conceives a child, that is because the parents chose to do this. Jesus did not enter this world as a result of human choice or the relationship between a man and woman.................Jesus already existed from the beginning. Jesus was and is God. At the right time, God decided to enter the world taking the form of a human being. He did this because in this way He could walk amongst his created people and show them the love He always desired for them to know. God became Jesus. The Injil says it like this, "Although the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him when He came. Even in His own land and among His own people, He was not accepted. But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God." John 1:10-12. This verse even describes us as being God's children. So in that unusual sense we are the sons and daughters of God, the very same thing the Bible says about Jesus. The Injil is very clear that Jesus did not have a physical Father. He was born from a virgin. His mother Mary did not have any physical relationship with any man, but God placed himself in her womb so that He would be born into the world. Next we must consider a very complicated point. God is infinite and immense, far beyond our ability to comprehend or understand. Even the simplest concepts we have of Him do not give Him the credit that His complexity deserves. However, God in His Mercy (Al Rahman) decided to present Himself to us in ways that we are able to comprehend, and He did this by revealing Himself as a Son AND as a Father. Each of us has a father who taught us and who had authority over us. God therefore presented Himself in this picture of a Father and a Son. He did this because in the course of our lives, all of us will be first the child and then the parent. We are able to understand these things. It does not mean that God had relations with another god (or woman) to produce Jesus........No, rather Jesus and God are the same, they are One. And, they present themselves to us as BOTH a Father and a Son. In this way we can understand many spiritual truths about the nature of God. In the same way for example that a man may be both a husband and a father, God is both a Father and a Son at the same time within Himself.
The Injil describes God in many ways, but the 3 most common revelations of God to us are that He has the nature of a Father, the nature of a Son and also the nature of a Spirit. Sadly, many Muslims accuse Christians of shirk, but this is a false accusation. Jesus is the revelation to us of only one God. My sincere prayer and hope is that despite my inability to explain this concept very well, that you might grasp what the Injil says about Jesus. Jesus truly is the Son of God.
