Did Jesus really die on the cross? Yes. There are two ways we know this to be certain. The first is through the writings of the Injil (part of the Bible) and the second is through historical records.

Here are some quotations from the Injil to show that Jesus died in such a way:

"They took Jesus and led Him away. Carrying the cross by Himself, Jesus went to the place called Skull Hill. There they crucified Him." John 19:16b-18a

"One of the criminals hanging beside Jesus scoffed, "So You're the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself, and us too while You're at it!" But the other criminal protested, "Don't you fear God even when you are dying? We deserve to die for our evil deeds, but this man hasn't done anything wrong." Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." And Jesus replied, "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise." By this time it was noon, and darkness fell across the whole land until three o'clock. The light from the sun was gone.........Then Jesus shouted, "Father, I entrust my spirit into Your hands!" And with those words He breathed His last." Luke 23:39-46

"One of the disciples, Thomas, was not with the others when Jesus came. They told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he replied, "I won't believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in His side." Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. He said, "Peace be with you." Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don't be faithless any longer. Believe!" "My Lord and my God!" Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, "You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who haven't seen me and believe anyway." John 20:24-29

There are many other scriptures which confirm that Jesus did die for the sins of the world. He is truly our Saviour and through Him we are able to find certainty that we will go to paradise. The Holy Injil accounts of Jesus' death also cover the various trials and court hearings Jesus attended before He died.

Some Muslims have wrongly believed that Judas was crucified and not Jesus. The Injil tells us that Judas died in a different way; he committed suicide. After having betrayed Jesus, Judas was filled with remorse and he hung himself. "Then Judas threw the money onto the floor of the Temple and went out and hanged himself." Matt 27:5 The money that Judas received for betraying Jesus was used by the temple priests to purchase a burial field for foreigners.

Finally, we also have the word of history. Here is an account from the ancient historian Flavius Josephus who described these events in his book "Antiquities." (by the way, the Jews were enemies of the Christians at that time, so this historical evidence would not normally make sense)

"About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man......he was one who wrought surprising feats and was a teacher of such people as accept the truth gladly. He won over many Jews and many of the Greeks. When Pilate, upon hearing him accused by men of the highest standing amongst us, had condemned him to be crucified, those who had in the first place come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared to them restored to life, for the prophets of God had prophesied these and countless other marvelous things about him."

If there is one thing you can trust, it is that Jesus really did die on the cross and you need to place your life and trust into His hands. If you do, you will never look back.
