Whenever I talk to a Muslim or read what they have written
about their life and faith, I often hear that they hope Allah (their God) will accept them
into paradise. These people are usually quite devout and religious.
They practice the many spiritual disciplines rigorously and often go beyond the official requirements by
giving extra gifts and fasting at extra times. Despite all of their hard
work, they often doubt that God will accept them. All of these people live with a fear that when they die, Allah will
reject them. The Bible however talks about a different way of being right with God and also about a God who is loving and kind and forgiving. The Injil teaches us that if we
put our trust in Jesus, we can have great hope and certainty. We can be
free of these fears and discouragements. Let me show you these things.
The Injil says we cannot be saved by our hard efforts.
"Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be
accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on our good deeds.
It is based on our faith. So we are made right with God through faith and
not by obeying the law." Romans 3:27-28 In another part of the
Injil it says that "No one can ever be made right in
God's sight by doing what His law commands. For the more we know God's
law, the clearer it becomes that we aren't obeying it." Romans 3:20
In addition to this, the scriptures also say that
"No one is good, not even one." Romans 2:10 So
if we cannot earn a place with God by hard work, how can we hope to be saved.
"It is by His boundless mercy that God
has given us the privilege of being born again. Now we live with a
wonderful expectation because Jesus Christ rose again from the dead. For
God has reserved a priceless inheritance for his children. It is kept in
heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay."
1 Peter 1:3-4 This part of the Injil teaches us that because
Jesus died and rose again, God has prepared a priceless inheritance for us in
paradise.
How is this possible?
Jesus himself was undefiled and perfect. He was without
sin. When Jesus died, He was killed for things He didn't deserve to die
for. Because of this, the Bible declares that His death was a sacrifice
instead of us. We Muslims are sinful and deserving of judgement, but Jesus
who didn't deserve this, voluntarily suffered so that by our faith we might be
spared. Then after He died, He rose back to life again defeating the power
of death so that we also by faith might defeat the power of death.
It sounds quite incredible, but it is true and has filled many
people with great hope. As a result, we no longer have to work hard to
earn merit with God, but we can receive forgiveness and pardon as a free gift.
We can also receive certainty that we will go to paradise and also receive the
Spirit of God to dwell inside us all as a result of the work and good life of
Jesus.
Listen to what this passage says, "If
we confess our sins to Him, (Jesus) He is faithful and just to forgive us and to
cleanse us from every wrong." 1 John 1:8-9 The only condition
for receiving pardon is that we are willing to admit our sin and confess it to
Jesus. If we would do this, then no longer will we strive to please God.
No longer do we have to work hard to be accepted, the Injil says Jesus will
accept us simply if we confess our sins and believe. If you would like to
do this now, here is a prayer that may help you to do so.
"Jesus, In my heart today I admit that
much guilt and sin exists. I confess that many times I have not done the
right and proper thing. I confess a lifetime of sins today and acknowledge
that these things have displeased you. Today may you remove them far from
me, just as you promised in the scriptures. I put my trust in the works of
Jesus to be a cleansing for me. I ask that you would prepare a place for
me in paradise and give me hope and certainty that I am your loved and accepted
child. Teach me to walk in the paths or goodness. Your servant."
If you truly were moved within to pray this prayer, then my
desire is to bless you with more materials and a portion of the Injil to read.
