| Dear Friends,
People everywhere just want to be happy. Most people might not be able to boil down their feelings to undesrtand it that simply, but that really is the great motivation behind what people do.
Some people look for success, money or a good relationship to make them happy, but these things usually only provide a temporary happiness. It never lasts very long.
A few months ago in a bible study I was at, we asked people if they could have anything they wanted, what would they choose. Over half of the people in the room just said they wanted to be happy. One guy said he wanted "peace of mind" which I guess is basically the same thing again. When Christmas time comes around as it is at the moment, this desire to be happy seems to be heightened and everyone talks about "peace and goodwill for all" but in all honesty, most people are unhappy just the same.
The Bible says in Luke 2 that this peace and goodwill is not for everyone, but only for those "who God favours". So for most people there is an endless hunt to be happy and enjoy life, but it is like trying to catch the wind. They never seem to find it because the way to find it is in God, not in these other ways. The Bible says in Genesis that "Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.". In other words because Abraham had faith he was able to receive a gift of blessing from God. In Hebrews 11:6 it says "Without faith it is impossible to please God." Most people want to be happy but they reject Jesus and refuse to believe in Him and put their trust in Him. These people don't realise it, but they are doomed to frustration because they will having nothing to do with the only person that can give them peace of mind.
Later in Luke chapter 2 there was a prophecy given to Jesus when he was just a baby, by a man called Simeon. Simeon said that "this man will be rejected by many and it will be their undoing." It also said that "this child will bring joy to many." In other words, being happy doesn't depend on how much money we have, or if we have a nice house or good looking spouse, it depends on having faith and placing it in Jesus. He is the source of our happiness.
I encourage you this Christmas to remember that Jesus really is the best gift of all and to place your life, your worries, your burdens, fears, addictions and stress into his hands. He is bigger than all our troubles and would love to help you, to give you peace of mind, and to lead you in living a life that glorifies God.
I wish you a merry Christmas and a blessed and fruitful life.
Cheers All my love and regards David |
