In about AD 30 Jesus spoke with His disciples and predicted the future.  His comments on war are recorded in the Bible, in Matthew chapter 24.  Here are some quotes:

"You will hear of wars and rumours of wars.  See that you are not troubled for such things must come to pass, but the end is not yet." and he also said "These are the beginning of sorrows," and also "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."  I suggest you read the whole passage later, but the events we are now seeing in the world were predicted by Jesus and will in fact continue to get worse until finally earth passes away.

We cannot bring about the peace we long for in the world, but we can have peace within our hearts when we invite God into our lives.   In addition, the eternal condition of our souls is at stake too.  We will face either eternity with God in Heaven or eternal separation from God in Hell.  Without being at peace with God we will suffer eternal separation in addition to a disturbed existence in the midst of the current world turmoil.  A friendship with God is the only safe position for our lives now and in eternity.

God offers us eternal life, peace now in the midst of turmoil, and meaning and purpose in an otherwise meaningless world.  He promises to forgive our sins and transform our lives if we would only recognize our true dependency on Him and ask for His help.  God asks that we repent.  This is to acknowledge that the way of God is right and that if we continue in our own way we are doomed.  As we confess our sins and ask for help, God honours that humility and inhabits our lives.  Things start to improve and we find we have a peace we had been desperately seeking for so long. 

Jesus was God who became human, and He offers us all this because, though He lived a perfect life He died a miserable death He didn't deserve, and He did it for us.  All of us deserve a such a miserable death because of our sins, but we can be spared because Jesus died His death instead of us.  He also raised Himself back to life from the dead so that we can have eternal life too.  If you would like to be at peace with God and receive eternal life, here is a prayer that will bring you close to God if you pray it in humility and are sincere in doing so.

Dear Heavenly Father, I realise my life is full of shortcomings and I cannot measure up, but I come and ask that because of Jesus I would be make clean.  Please forgive me, give me peace with God, give me eternal life and make me into a new person by your power.  Do this work in me now I pray.  Amen
