Dear Friends
How are you this week? I bought 2 computers this weekend without really meaning to......it was odd but I went to a tender centre and put very low bids on a couple of second hand computers and never thought I would get any of them but ended up with 2. One was a Windows computer which now has Red Hat 9 on it and the other an older Apple Mac. So its been a fun few days fiddling with the new gear and setting it up. I'm hoping to use the Linux computer to run a webcam server in the church at Mt Morgan and give you all a peek into my world.............but I'm still waiting on Broadband to come to town which will hopefully arrive in the next 6-8 weeks.
Anyway I wanted to share one basic thought with you about getting to know God. In the last email I talked about 2 different journeys that we have in our faith and the most important one of those is to come to know our God and to love Him deeply. However often we are caught up in many christian activites which are good in themselves, but because of this busyness it keeps us from knowing God because we don't get around to doing the things that help us to know Him.
Do you remember the story in the Bible about Mary and Martha, they were 2 sisters who invited Jesus over for a meal one day. Martha was very busy preparing the meal and Mary was just sitting listening to Jesus. Martha came in and complained to Jesus that Mary wasn't helping, but Jesus' reply was interesting.....He said, "Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken from her." You can read this story in the bible at Luke 10:38 on.
Often we are busy serving God by doing things for Him (like Martha) but we are not actually getting to know Jesus (like Mary was). So I'm not saying we should stop serving God with out time talents and money because they are still important, but what I mean is that we need to learn how to be a little less busy so that we can do things that will help us get to know God a bit more.
The question is.......what things can we do to get to know God? As it turns out.........that happens to be a very good question with a very simple answer. However I've decided to keep you guessing until the next email.......... : ) I hope you won't be dissapointed because my main hope is to get you intersted and thinking about knowing God and if I don't tell you so much straight away, it will bring you hopefully to a place where you are better able to hear it next time. Also, on top of all this, there are a lot of very good promises for the people who know their God.
In all things, the Lord be with you.......I love and appreciate you all and I pray often for you.
Cheers
David |
