Dear Friends,
How's things? I have been watching the news coming in from New Orleans this week and I am really amazed that such devastation and tragedy has happened so easily. I wish I could do something (other than pray that is). It is obvious that we are definitely living in the end times. Jesus said in Matthew 24 that these events would be like when a Mother has contractions before giving birth. He said these events would be "just the beginning of birth pains." So I guess that these "contractions" will speed up as we near the end.
Anyway, in the church here this week we have been discussing the nature of God. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord." So we know that we only serve and follow one God. There is no doubt about that. However the issue that is very important is to know whether or not Jesus is God? The quick answer is yes, let me show you some more verses.
In many places in the Bible Jesus is referred to as the "Son of God." We are also familiar with the concept of "Father, Son and Holy Spirit." When we talk like this however it doesn't sound like one God does it? It sounds more like three, at least that is what the Muslims think anyway. However the Bible very clearly teaches us that Jesus is God and that there is only one.
For example, these verses (amongst many):
John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God."
Isaiah 7:14
"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." (which means "God is with us")
Titus 2:13 "we wait for the blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ"

The Bible is quite clear that there is only one God and also that Jesus is God..........it sounds like a contradiction but it isn't. We human beings often have a hard time trying to understand God. God never had a beginning and will never have an end. God can be everywhere at the same time. God knows everything. God created everything. It is impossible to know everything about God. So even though God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, He is still only the one God.
What's important is not that we understand it because we won't be able to do that, but instead that we place our faith in Jesus as our Saviour and God. We need to give our hearts and love to Him and seek to cherish and obey Him. God will reward us for our faith and obedience.
Bless you Cheers David |
