G'day Friends,
How was the Easter break? I had a great week myself......went down to New South Wales and stayed with friends at their motel (they are motel owners). I also visited my town of my birth and got to swim in the hot springs nearby (absolutely fantastic early in the morning). All over I had a very relaxing time. As I drove home I came through an opal mining town called Lightning Ridge which was alltogether fascinating. I'd like to visit there again one day and do some fossicking.
Anyway, I wanted to ask you to think for a minute about what motivates you to do anything for God. Some people find they have absolutely no motivation do serve God at all. Other people do things for God out of a sense of duty, like they have to do it. Some others obey God because they are scared of going to Hell and others feel like they "owe Him one." But there is a far greater motivating force than all of these, and this is the motivation of love.
Imagine when you first fell in love with your girlfriend/boyfriend. Maybe some of you reading this may not have experienced this yet......but it will happen. The feeling of being wanted and appreciated by that person would make you do anything at all for them. You would go to great lengths to please that person.......nothing was too much trouble. Well, imagine if that was how we felt towards God.
The good news is that it is possible to feel this way towards God, but it is not an automatic feeling...........it must be cultivated. Instead of hearing another Sunday sermon and walking away thinking that "I must get around to doing that soon," or "I really must try harder".........there would be a lot of joy instead and looking forward to finding out more and obeying God. There have been times in my own life where this experience has been mine........and then other times when I have ignored God and done what I wanted to do myself and the feeling of being "in love" with God is not there.
I want to encourage you today to seek Him. Remember when you first came to God how He touched your heart..............well that experience of knowing Him can be yours again if you would turn aside from the many distractions and other things which consume your time. Give yourself to God afresh today and allow Him to minister to you again. Allow yourself to "fall in love" again.
Cheers - God bless
