Dear Friends
Hows things been? Just recently weve had the Tent of Promise in Mt Morgan. Its a sort of tent crusade with a difference. I found it a great encouragment to my own faith and a number of people also became Christians as a result of their visit. They're going to come back here next year...I'm already looking forward to it.
The Saturday night before last it was late and I was tired, but I didn't feel like going to bed so I decided to go for a late night walk with God.........and I was very blessed. As I was walking I began to think about Abraham (in the book of Genesis). God said to Abraham to try and count the stars (which is impossible of course) and He promised that this would be the number of His descendants. God made many promises to Abraham like that. Because we are in the country the stars are so big and bright here........and all the things the Bible has to say about Abraham came right back to my mind.
Why did God pick Abraham to offer all these promises and blessings to? What was it about him that make God and Abraham close?
There's a couple of qualities that Abraham had that if we too have we will also receive the promises and blessings of God. Firstly Abraham was a man who trusted God. God spoke to Abraham and asked him to leave Ur (his home) and go, and He didn't even know where he was to go.....but He trusted God and left. Secondly Abraham was a man who was blameless. This means He lived a life which pleased God. He didn't pursue sin or worldliness but obeyed God.
Finally, the Bible says in 3 places that Abraham was "the friend of God." This means that Abraham spent time with God in prayer, but in a special kind of prayer. Many of us pray asking only for our needs and worries to be sorted out.....but a friend of God will pray because He wants to know God, he wants to hear God's voice and He wants to experience God.........in other words........a seeker.
So you and I can be just like Abraham and recieve many blessings if we would walk with God, be blameless, obedient and yielding. Our lives will be revolutionised. Like Abraham, we might not know where God is taking us in it all, but we trust Him because we know it will be good
Take care
