| Hi Dearest Friends
I'm assuming that you\'ve heard of "The Lords Prayer"...most people have. Its found in the Bible in Matthew 6 (or thereabouts) and also early in the gospel of Luke. This is actually quite a special prayer because the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray and the Lord's prayer was his sample prayer to show them how to do it.
Lets examine it bit by bit for a minute..
"Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy Name."....... This part is what we call Worship. We should always make sure we include thankfulness and worship in our prayers because God is deserving and me must appreciate him and tell Him how much He means to us. A person who prays thankful prayers is always much happier because they focus on What God has done rather than what they want.
"Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.".....This part is called Intercession which is praying for other peoples needs and praying for important issues. We often pray much for ourselves, but never pray for others, so Jesus taught us always to pray for other people, and we will be very blessed if we do so.
"Give us this day our daily bread.".......This part is called Petition which is where we pray for our own needs. Some people feel embarrased asking God for help, but we must be honest with God and tell Him our problems and let Him help us out.
"Forgive us our sins,"..............This is called Confession and is a vital part of our prayers. We must confess our sins to God...name them. The Bible says that if we confess our sins, we will be forgiven. This also helps our heart to remain soft and clean. We must always keep a short account with God.
"As, we forgive those who sin against us."..........We must also forgive other people who sin against us, otherwise God cannot forgive us. This is called\"Releasing Others" This needs to be a daily part of your prayers too.
"Keep us from temptation and deliver us from the Evil one."...........finally we finish with prayer for protection from sin and protection from the Devil.
So in summary, there are 6 basic things to include in your regular prayers. 1. Worship 2. Intercession 3. Petition 4. Confession 5. Release Others 6. Prayer for Protection and Deliverance.
I hope that this helps you in praying every day and in growing closer to Jesus.
Cheers
David
