Dear Friends
I hope you had a good weekend and that this email finds you well and at peace. We had a wedding in our church yesterday, the first one for about 4 years. It was a little quaint because the groom was 53, and the bride was a staggering 89. They are a lovely couple and they have a very interesting story of how this all came about, not that I have time to tell you, but we did have an enjoyable day. Also, they came to our service this morning. It just goes to show that even on your honeymoon you can still attend church. (as I write this, I have a big smile on my face and a chuckle in my heart)
Last night was a very special time for me. Normally I am one who goes to bed early, but last night I didn't retire until around 2:30 am. At about 1:00 am I went for a walk with God through the streets of Mt Morgan and I felt so close to Him. It was as though there was no-one else in the whole world except just the two of us and the whole time I looked at the stars in the sky (they are big and bright out in the
country) I just couldn't stop thinking how precious God is to me. (and all of us) God spoke to me about many things last night and totally shifted the focus of some of my thinking. I want to encourage you that we are not to just grow in knowing about God and doing things for God, but we are to actually grow in experiencing Him. He can become more real to you than anyone else, and this is where He wants to take you. God is with us all the time, but in the busyness of our lives we somehow do not connect. What you need to do is to slow down a bit, take some time off. Relax and begin to look for Him, and you will find He is waiting for you to do that.
My thoughts in recent days have also been regarding the word "church." It is my personal belief (and you may agree) that the word has been so warped and misused that it is now virtually useless. When we talk of "church" today, people think in their minds of a building rather than what it actually is......people. When Jesus first used that word, (which was actually a different word in the language He used) He was referring to His disciples as being the church, not a place, or organisation, or denomination. (etc the Baptist Church) As I was reading the comments of one of our Indian brothers Amit (He is on this mailing list) regarding this subject I realised how most people (Amit
excluded) do not have a proper understanding of what the Church is. We are the church, all of us. In the Bible when Jesus talks about building HIs church in Matthew 16:18 He is not talking about buildings, but about building a group of people who love each other and get on. That's us. So when 2 or 3 gather in His name, even if it is for coffee, and you pray and bring Jesus into it, that also is a gathering of the church. (makes sense to me anyway)
May I also apologise for the random spluttering of equals signs (='s) that keep showing up in some of these emails. This problem is not occuring to everyone, but only some recipients and then only at random within the email. I am not sure what I can do to fix it, so I ask you to be patient with me and I will do a little further research on this whole area.
Cheers to you in Christ. I hope you have a great week at work and that you grow closer in your walk to God. May the grace of God appeal to you and draw you into deeper fellowship with Him in these last days. Remember that you will inherit the promises of God if you have faith and do not lose heart and give up. We have also had you all in our prayers. I trust all is well and you are in good health.
God BLess
David
